Garden of Eden in the Bible and in the Koran - Water welling up from the ground
(Qur'an - the readings and recitations of An).
We have provided below references to water welling up from the ground, which help to confirm our preliminary site survey November 2009, that the level of the water table in the Rachaiya Basin was controlled, providing perfect growing conditions in the important summer and autumn months. The Snow melt water supply and the ability to control soil moisture was a prerequisite for agriculture at this location from 9,400 BC, and the principle agricultural technology still demonstrated around the world today.
Level of the water table in the Rachaiya Basin was controlled - Overview
[GEN 2:4-6 TH VB] ... When the lord God [Yahweh Elohim] made [wrought] earth and heaven - no shrub of the field being yet in the earth and no grains having yet sprouted, because the lord God [Yahweh Elohim] had not sent rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the soil, but a flow would well up from the ground and water the whole surface of the earth.
The "Garden of Eden" is mentioned 10 times in the Koran (Suras 2:34, 9:71, 18:30&34, 19:60, 20:75, 35:32, 38:49, 40:7, 41:10) but only once in Sura 2:34 with reference to it being the habitation of Adam and his wife, giving a recount of the Genesis story:
Koran 2:34-40 (34) And We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye freely (of the fruits) thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers. (35) But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were; and We said: Fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! There shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time. (36) Then Adam received from his Lord words (of revelation), and He relented toward him. Lo! He is the relenting, the Merciful. (37) We said: Go down, all of you, from hence; but verily there cometh unto you from Me a guidance; and whoso followeth My guidance, there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve. (38) But they who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein. (39) O Children of Israel! Remember My favour wherewith I favoured you, and fulfil your (part of the) covenant, I shall fulfil My (part of the) covenant, and fear Me. (40) And believe in that which I reveal, confirming that which ye possess already (of the Scripture), and be not first to disbelieve therein, and part not with My revelations for a trifling price, and keep your duty unto Me.
Koran 9:71 Allah promiseth to the believers, men and women, Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide - blessed dwellings in Gardens of Eden. And - greater (far)! - acceptance from Allah. That is the supreme triumph.
Koran 18 - (30) As for such, theirs will be Gardens of Eden, wherein rivers flow beneath them; therein they will be given armlets of gold and will wear green robes of finest silk and gold embroidery, reclining upon throne therein. Blest the reward, and fair the resting-place! (31) Coin for them a similitude: Two men, unto one of whom We had assigned two gardens of grapes, and We had surrounded both with date-palms and had put between them tillage. (32) Each of the gardens gave its fruit and withheld naught thereof. And We caused a river to gush forth therein. (33) And he had fruit. And he said unto his comrade, when he spoke with him: I am more than thee in wealth, and stronger in respect of men. (34) And he went into his garden, while he (thus) wronged himself. He said: I think not that all this will ever perish. (35) I think not that the Hour will ever come, and if indeed I am brought back unto my Lord I surely shall find better than this as a resort.
Koran 19 - (59) Save him who shall repent and believe and do right. Such will enter the Garden, and they will not be wronged in aught - (60) Gardens of Eden, which the Beneficent hath promised to His slaves in the unseen. Lo! His promise is ever sure of fulfilment - (61) They hear therein no idle talk, but only Peace; and therein they have food for morn and evening. (62) Such is the Garden which We cause the devout among Our bondmen to inherit.
Koran 20 (73) Lo! whoso cometh guilty unto his Lord, verily for him is hell. There he will neither die nor live. (74) But whoso cometh unto Him a believer, having done good works, for such are the high stations; (75) Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. That is the reward of him who groweth. (76) And verily We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea, fearing not to be overtaken, neither being afraid (of the sea).
Koran 35 - (32) Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance unto those whom We elected of Our bondmen. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour! (32) Gardens of Eden! They enter them wearing armlets of gold and pearl and their raiment therein is silk.
Koran 38 - (47) And make mention of Ishmael and Elisha and Dhu'l-Kifl. All are of the chosen. (48) This is a reminder. And lo! for those who ward off (evil) is a happy journey's end, (49) Gardens of Eden, whereof the gates are opened for them, (50) Wherein, reclining, they call for plenteous fruit and cool drink (that is) therein. (51) And with them are those of modest gaze, companions. (52) This it is that ye are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
Koran 40 - (7) Our Lord! And make them enter the Gardens of Eden which thou hast promised them, with such of their fathers and their wives and their descendants as do right. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Mighty, the Wise.
Koran 41 (8) Say (O Muhammad, unto the idolaters): Disbelieve ye verily in Him Who created the earth in two Days, and ascribe ye unto Him rivals? He (and none else) is the Lord of the Worlds. (9) He placed therein firm hills rising above it, and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask; (10) Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth. They said: We come, obedient. (11) Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days and inspired in each heaven its mandate; and We decked the nether heaven with lamps, and rendered it inviolable. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Knower.
