PANPIPES
OF THE OLD WORLD
The panpipes
of the Old World were found in use in Panama, Columbia and Peru.
And the same panpipes were found in the Solomon Islands with
a tonal identity and the same pitch. Surely another example,
moving in one direction or the other, of contact culture. For
Peru was intermittently in touch with the Old World via the
Atlantic until the Bronze Age; and occasionally with Pacific
Islands to the East and the Asian mainland.
