King Limestone Inlay on Slate - c. 5,000 BC

This
finely-executed limestone inlay on a slate plaque represents
a king of Kish of a an early Sumerian dynasty. The king is shaven
and wears a form of dress unusual on royal figures of the early
period. The cone shaped crown or cap is also unknown in other
examples.
