The
Leader and His Wife or Consort of Tell Halaf - Pre 2,500 BC

Not
far from the temple-palace at Tell Halaf was unearthed another
building, a cult-room containing statues of deities, household
idols, necklaces of stone and other fragments representing offerings
made to the local divinities just before temple and town were
involved in a common ruin. The most remarkable of these "finds"
was this double statue of a man and woman - possibly the Hittite
god Teshup and his consort Hepet - sitting on a beach together,
with their feet resting on a slab.
