Home - Skara Brae
Here
we see the interior of one of the nine dwellings of the Skara
Brae - a prehistoric kitchen, parlour and bedroom combined.
On the right is the larder or dresser, in front of which, let
into the floor, is a stone tank in which, very probably, limpets
were stored in sea-water. The open hearth is in the centre of
the chamber, and at the back is a stone box-bed. Above the bed
is a cupboard or safe, where perchance the housewife kept her
trinkets.
