Mud Brick Walls at Kish - On Euphrates Iraq
Considered
to be amongst the oldest cities of Sumeria, Kish (meaning universal
dominion) was believed to be the capital of the first Sumerian
civilisation going back before 5,000 BC. Kish lies on the opposite
side of the River Euphrates to and within sight of Babylon.
The city was subsequentl y home to Sargon I and King Hammurabi.
The walls shown were part of the Temple to the senior female
deity Ninkharsag.
